15 Great Boozy Coffee Shops in Austin

Coffee shops that also serve alcohol have been all the rage in Austin lately, and it's become a staple of Austin culture.  Here's a list of my favorite boozy coffee shops in the city that will give you your caffeine fix or provide you with an awesome beer on draft, depending on your mood. I love these bar-coffee duos because they are usually open later than places that only serve coffee.

1. Nomadic Beerworks
This brewery opened up about 5 months ago in South Austin, right by St. Edward's University. This place not only has some amazing draft beers, but they started serving coffee and espresso drinks. It's a great place to get work done or hang out with friends.
2. Cosmic Coffee & Beer Garden
Cosmic has always been a favorite of mine, from the day they opened back in 2017. They keep making their business better and better, with food trucks and a chicken coop, a pond, and events every week. Not to mention their beer and coffee can't be beat! Pro tip: put CBD in your latte if you need to destress a little and also get your caffeine fix.
3. Radio Coffee & Beer
Radio is one of my favorite coffee & beer duos in Austin, mostly cause there is always something happening! They have trivia, bluegrass nights, and comedy throughout the week. There is also some yummy food trucks if you need some grub. More info here.
4. Halcyon
Halcyon is one of my favorite coffee lounges in Austin, and I've always wondered what their name means. Turns out Halcyon describes "a period of time that was idyllically happy and peaceful." Happy and peaceful is definitely how I feel when I drink their coffee cocktails. I would recommend trying their smore's: you get to make your own smore's at a fire that they bring to the table! It's the hipsteriest, most amazing dessert experience I've ever had.
5. Buzzmill Coffee
For some reason, I seem to be at Buzzmill every Wednesday without fail, to the point where my maps on my phone suggests I go to Buzzmill on Wednesday's now. I go there to study but end up watching their weekly comedy show. They have some yummy coffee drinks but if you want a beer, I would highly recommend their HiSign Blueberry Blonde on draft.... My friends make fun of me for how much I rave about this beer but it really is amazing and 100% worthy of the hype. They are also open 24 hours for those of us that like to stay up all night.
6. Wright Brew & Brew
I just discovered this place a few weeks ago and I am obsessed! They have the biggest beer selection I have ever seen, and their iced vanilla latte is to die for. Last time I went, there were like six golden retrievers wandering around making my day 1000% better. They also serve a yummy pizza bagel for when you get hungry while studying or socializing.
7. Caffe Medici
Medici is right by where I work, so I go there a lot on my break. The upstairs area is a great place to people watch and get things done. They have some interesting coffee drinks, including one that is essentially an espresso milkshake (it's as good as it sounds). If you're in the mood for a beer, I always go for the Live Oak Hefenwizen or whichever HiSign beer they have on draft that week.
8. Spokesman
Spokesman is hidden away off I-35 in South Austin but it is well worth finding. Their eclectic vibe makes the coffee shop a little weird in a good way. They have lunch options but the best part about this place is their drinks. They have lots of beers on draft, great espresso drinks, and a cool outdoor area!
9. Sour Duck Market
Sour Duck Market is a coffee shop/bar/restaurant off MLK that is a great place to go with large groups to hang out in a stress-free environment. There's two different buildings that are connected by a large outdoor area where you can relax or study or have a meeting. Their food options are great if you are open to something a little outside of the box. Look at their menu here if you're curious.
10. Opa Coffee and Wine Bar
Opa is a cute greek bar off of South Lamar where you can see live music, learn how to tango, or just sit in their cozy couches and have a glass of wine. They have yummy appetizers and great drink options as well. This is definitely the most upscale of the places on this list, a great place for a first date!
11. Plaza Colombian Coffee
This coffee shop opened up on South Congress earlier this year, and I went the day it opened because I was so excited to see another coffee shop in South Austin! They have lots of classic colombian drinks and pastries as well as nice wine options. The space is decorated really nicely and has a relaxing vibe where you can comfortably do work or socialize with friends. It's one of the few coffee shops in Austin that brings a lot of outside culture into its design and drinks.
12. Cenote
Cenote is known for their amazing brunch options, but they also have one of the best iced vanilla lattes I have ever had. They also have seven local drafts and eight wines by the glass if you want to have a drink. There's a great outdoor area and always some cute dogs to pet on the patio. This place is pretty packed though, especially on the weekends, so good luck finding parking.
13. Alta's Cafe
This coffee shop in downtown Austin overlooks Ladybird Lake, where you'll see lots of people rowing and running on the trail. I love the outdoor patio, where they will occasionally have musicians perform acoustic sets. Check out the big bicycle sculpture right next to Alta's! I would also recommend trying their mocha or getting a beer sample if you are in the mood to drink. This is one of my favorite coffee shops to head to on break from work to get some sunlight while drinking a nice cup of coffee.
14. Houndstooth Coffee
There's a few Houndstooth locations in Austin, but I'm a regular at the downtown location off of Congress. This coffee shop is near a lot of cool downtown sights, and has a great selection of espresso and beer. The layout of the shop is pretty neat, and it's a nice place to have a cup of joe and relax.
15. Spiderhouse
This coffee shop/bar is one of my favorite places to go in the UT area, because you can do just about anything here! Want a tattoo? There's a shop upstairs. Want to see live music? Head inside to their indoor stage to see a show. They have a full bar and awesome coffee options. If you are looking for entertainment check out their spelling bee, trivia night, or catch a Drunk Shakespeare show! You won't regret going to Spiderhouse, if only for the atmosphere alone. More info here.

There ya have it, the best coffee and beer bars in Austin!
